Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Community health promotion is essential for improving public well-being, particularly in regions facing healthcare challenges. Local newspapers in Maiduguri Local Government, Borno State, play a pivotal role in disseminating health information, addressing misconceptions, and encouraging preventive care practices. Through articles on immunization, hygiene, and disease prevention, these newspapers provide vital education tailored to the needs of the local population. This study examines the role of local newspapers in promoting community health, focusing on their contribution to health awareness and behavioral change.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite the availability of health information, communities in Maiduguri face challenges such as low health literacy and limited access to healthcare services.
